Site Visit - Where I will stay for 2 years

I have so many things to write but not enough time to write them or a network connection for that. This week I am visiting my site The place where I will be working for 2 years it's just a visit so I can understand life and the home system I also got to see my school! It's pretty small and there are 3 6th grades 2 7th grades and one 8th and 9th grade. My host father is the president of the school parents teachers association and my supervisor is the principal they are both so nice and take very good care of me. I felt instantly welcomed.

When I arrived in my village at about noon Saturday the 30th a whole crowd was waiting to greet me. There was a song and dance and they walked me to my family singing that I was here and it was a blessing. They walked me through the community singing this to let everyone know. I then participated in the dance and wow that was hard work but super fun. We talked and talked and it rained which in Benin if it rains with someone's arrival it means that they are blessed and they come in peace. This was an excellent sign for me. Even in the dry season if someone arrives at your house you pour some water for them to walk over to show they come in peace, so having this symbol for my arrival really sealed the deal, I'm meant to be here. My counterpart who I will be teaching with is really great. He speaks amazing English and I know we will have lots of conversations. We started watching a Nigerian movie "The Prince Falls in Love with a nun" and that says it for you it's pretty damn hilarious. I went to multiple markets around me and bought some stuff like my shower.

I bought a big bucket and a small bucket to shower in, Yes it's working for now but I need a better system. I really need curtains cuz my windows and doors are just very open….

The house has some pests but I expected this, its Peace Corps, not a vacation. It is my house and it is my problem to deal with how I need.

I feel the most genuine about myself right now. I can set my own agenda while also getting important things done. My site is my haven and I know that I will start to get accustomed to the community. This is my fit for me and I am so happy. My neighbors are so kind and talk to me. The students that I met early are good as well. Just excited for training to end and get out there!
