Finally some things going right

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

If you haven't read my earlier post about COVID vaccine regulations in Korea this post may not make the most sense. BUT feel free to read and feel the weight lifted off you as well.

I recently had the largest weight lifted off my chest. My COVID vaccine was able to be registered by the Korean government and I was able to get a booster shot on December 13th. I almost cried with happiness on Thursday because of the news to register my vaccine. I went with Kimberly right after my class at 5 pm to the community health center. We were giggling on the seven-floor elevator ride and finally, our vaccines were put in the system by a nice worker and we were able to finally enter buildings and restaurants and survive in Korea. I have never been in a situation where I had no control over my movements and health. I was not allowed to get a booster shot even after 11 months because my vaccine was not recognized but as soon as it was registered I scheduled it for 3 days later. The fact that the only thing stopping me was the government's permission was astounding. Now that the weight was lifted off my shoulders I was able to celebrate.

During this same week, there were many outbreaks of COVID at my university and dorm, I was extremely nervous and tried to keep myself safe, but felt as if I was even unsafe to be at the dormitory since 4 cleaning ladies and the security guard were found to have COVID. I took a test the same day that my vaccine got registered and thanks to Korea's one-day testing I found I was negative on Friday. Yet another weight off my chest for the time being. I felt like there was no one that I could trust or see if so many people in the dorms have COVID and I was barely vaccinated. Now with the booster, I feel at least a bit safer in my situation.

FINALLY on Friday I traveled to Suwon with Kimberly no surprise and met my Korean friend. I was so nervous because I am not good at meeting new people but once we got there I felt happy. I had some extremely good food and met new friends. No matter how awkward it is in the beginning I always find fond memories to hold onto. Like how I absolutely cannot play Korean rhythm games, or that karaoke after drinking is the ONLY valid option. I am so happy that I have these opportunities to meet with Koreans and have a good stress free night. Thank you, everyone!!!
